What happens when you finally stop—and nothing rushes in to replace it?

The Discomfort of Space: The Career Transition Void
As a psychosomatic coach working with high-functioning clients at turning points in their careers, I often see how destabilising it is to stop performing for long enough to hear what you actually need. Many clients come to me in the wake of burnout, transition, or misalignment. They've stepped away from something and suddenly they’re in the void. The old role, routine, or identity is gone. And nothing has replaced it.
For the first time, there's space. No deadlines. No titles. No scripts. No clear plan. Just you.
And even when that space was desperately longed for, it can feel threatening.
When Nothing Rushes In
In this space, you may have more energy, time, or freedom than ever before. But instead of peace, what arises is panic:
“What will people think?” “Am I wasting time?”“What do I even want?”“Why don’t I feel better yet?”
These thoughts are not signs of failure. They're signs of deconditioning. This is where the work begins.
The Rush to Rebuild
When the void gets loud, many people scramble to fill it. A new project. A rushed decision. Another job. A training. A side hustle.
But what if this discomfort wasn’t something to escape? What if this blank space is where the next version of you can actually emerge? In psychosomatic coaching, I help clients feel their way through the in-between—not bypass it. We work with the body, the nervous system, the internal parts that resist slowness, and the pressure to be someone again.
Growth Is Not Linear
The truth is, career evolution isn’t a ladder, it’s a cycle. Often, the void comes right before clarity. But only if we stop rushing to fix it.
The discomfort you're in might not mean you're lost. It might mean you're unfurling. Coming undone, yes, but into something more honest. More aligned.
If you're here, you're not behind. You're not broken. You're in the space where the new thing grows.
If you're navigating the discomfort of a career transition void or want support in the void before clarity, I offer Introductory Psychosomatic Sessions and one-off Strategic Deep Dive Sessions for high-functioning clients at a crossroads.
